After much speculation from fans, players, and even league officials, the New England Patriots finally buckled down on signing quarterback Cam Newton. After losing franchise cornerstone Tom Brady to the Buccaneers in free agency, many watched the organization from a far in pure dismay, as they decided to sit tight in free agency and the draft, and stick with young unproven talent in Jarrett Stidham. As rumors bloomed and fans prayed, many sat wondering what was happening with the six time super bowl champs. On the evening of June 28th at 7:54 PM, their dreams finally came to reality. League sources told Adam Schefter that former MVP Superman Cam had decided to sign a one year deal, worth up to $7.5 million dollars with incentives. Newton was released from his former team the Carolina Panthers after an unfortunate injury bout that landed him on the bench. Even though the former league MVP has 182 touchdowns under his belt, this is a prove it or lose it year if you’ve ever seen one. No one really knows what to expect from this signing, but no matter what, this season won’t be one to miss.
